I knew at that moment that I needed to look down and face the truth. It was not going to be good news. I bit the bullet—I was red colored, as though I’d been splashed with paint from head to toe, and it was drying on me.

I was rushed to the real dressing room shower. Yikes. I wondered how fast the news had traveled. Were Demi and whoever told her laughing at me, and how hard? If so, it would be deserved! I couldn’t be mad at an entire crew on a multimillion-dollar movie, snickering behind and in front of my back, not after my body had betrayed me like that. They couldn’t help it. Who could?

This was the worst possible actor’s nightmare, because it was real! I had just menstruated all over Alec Baldwin and decimated the one set of sheets they had. I couldn’t blame the set dressers for not having a backup plan in case the actress, supposedly professional, bled all over everything in the midst of the first take.

They couldn’t even get one take in the can, because the sheets wouldn’t match. We had to wait for the emergency errand runner to go buy some while we were getting cleaned up.

ASSISTANT: (in a very quiet mumble) This might take a minute
